The Level 2 Accounting Foundation Certificate is taught over a number of units, which includes computerised accounts. The course is delivered by industry specialists who have either worked in or are currently working in practice.

What will I do?

The Level 2 Accounting Foundation Certificate is taught over five units which includes:

  • Basic Costing
  • Computerised Accounting
  • Working Effectively in Accounting and Finance
  • Processing Bookkeeping Transactions
  • Control Account, Journals and the Banking System

The entry qualifications for the Level 2 Accounting Foundation Certificate are five GCSEs at grades 4 or above (Old GCSE grade C and above) including English and Maths (or equivalent), Accounting Award Level 1, and a good level of English and Maths and/or recent relevant work experience will be considered.

If you do not have the required English and Maths entry criteria, you may be required to complete a diagnostic test to ensure suitability for the course.

If however, you fall outside of any of these categories, individual cases will be considered.

The Accounting Foundation Certificate will take you one year to complete, with fortnightly attendance.

The course will take place in the evenings for 3 hours, 6:00pm - 9:00pm, starting on Friday 2nd November 2022.

The Level 2 Accounting AAT Certificate may be fully funded by the Adult Education Budget should you be eligible under the following criteria:

  • Be aged 19 or older on the 31st August at the start of the current academic year
  • Be either unemployed and receiving JSA, ESA or Universal Credit (subject to criteria) OR be earning less than £17,374.50 (annual gross salary) a year

If you do not qualify for funding under the AEB budget this course will cost you £905.
You will also need to register with the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) - which is currently £135.

This course is assessed through computer-based exams and a synoptic assessment, which draws on and assesses knowledge and understanding from across the qualification.

On successful completion of this course, you can progress to higher levels of the AAT Accounting Qualifications (Level 3 and then on to Level 4). Under the National Skills Fund initiative, you might be eligible for a fully funded Level 3 course. Alternatively, you can apply for an advanced learner loan to cover the cost of your Level 3 study. Please ask a member of college staff for more information.

The skills and knowledge you will gain throughout this qualification will qualify you for roles including Accounts Assistant, Finance Assistant, Credit Control Assistant or Purchase Ledger Clerk.

You will need to register with the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) - which is currently £135 for the duration of this qualification.
