This Access to Social Science programme is designed for adults interested in undertaking a career in the Social Science, Psychology or Counselling fields.

Successful completion of the course could also lead to progression onto the College's University Level courses. You could study the HNC/HND in Public Services on your doorstep and at up to half the cost of university fees.

What will I do?

The Access to Social Science programme is gained by achieving 18 Level 3 credits in Sociology, 18 Level 3 credits in Psychology and 18 Level 3 credits in Counselling.

You will also complete six Level 3 credits in Study Skills.

Whilst it is an advantage that you have a full Level 2 qualification prior to entry on the Access to Humanities programme, the only requirement is that you hold at least a minimum of one GCSE grade 4 (Old GCSE grade C), in either English or Maths (equivalent qualifications may also be accepted e.g. Functional Skills Level.

The Access to Social Science programme will take 34 weeks to complete. You will study at College 14 hours a week and hours are designed to fit around childcare/school hours.

The Access to Social Science programme will cost £3022
If you have already gained a Level 3 qualification you may still be able to apply for an Advanced Learning Loan.

Aged 19+?
If you are aged 19 years or over on the 1st day of your course, you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to help with your College fees. If you progress to employment you won't have to pay anything back until you’re earning £25,000 per year. Your household income isn't taken into account and there's no credit check. For the full diploma to be awarded you will need to compile a portfolio of assignments, which are externally moderated by Aim Awards.

You will learn by a variety of processes including theory and practice, portfolio assignments, individual and group work.

Successful completion of the Access to Social Science programme may allow you direct entry to university study on courses such as Counselling, Psychology, Criminology, Social Work, Social Policy, Politics, International Relations or HND in Public Services.
