This Access to Social Science programme is designed for adults interested in undertaking a career in the Social Science, Psychology or Counselling fields.

Successful completion of the course could also lead to progression onto the College's University Level courses. You could study the HNC/HND in Public Services on your doorstep and at up to half the cost of university fees.

What will I do?

The Access to Social Science programme is gained by achieving 18 Level 3 credits in Sociology, 18 Level 3 credits in Psychology and 18 Level 3 credits in Counselling.

You will also complete six Level 3 credits in Study Skills.

To undertake the course full time, you will need Maths and English at Level 2 GCSE Grade 4 (legacy grade C)or above. Functional skills for both at Level 2 will also be accepted.

To join us part time you only need one Level 2 qualification in English or Maths, and we will work with you to gain your other Level 2 over the 2-year part time course.

Access to Social Science will take you 1 year to complete. Based at our Boston Campus (Rochford), you will study 2 sessions a week either in the day or in the evening to suit your availability. This can be either 2 days a week, 2 evenings a week, or a combination of 1 day and 1 evening per week.

For those aged 19-23 on the first day of the course, if this is your first Level 3 course your fees may be free, please enquire with the Registry Department for further information on 01205 365701 or email your query to fees@boston.ac.uk.

The Access to Social Science programme will cost £3,600.
If you have already gained a Level 3 qualification you may still be able to apply for an Advanced Learning Loan.

Aged 19+?
If you are aged 19 years or over on the 1st day of your course, you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to help with your College fees. If you progress to employment you won't have to pay anything back until you’re earning £25,000 per year. Your household income isn't taken into account and there's no credit check. Your eligibility depends on your course, nationality, and age. To find out more contact the College Information Line on 01205 313218.

For the full diploma to be awarded you will need to compile a portfolio of assignments, which are externally moderated by Aim.

You will learn by a variety of processes including theory and practice, portfolio assignments, individual and group work.

This course is designed to feed directly into a Higher Education course available at Boston College but will also prepare you to progress into Higher Education at the University of your choice.
