The Adult Access to Health Professions programme is designed for adults interested in undertaking nursing, midwifery, paramedic science, physiotherapy, occupational health, radiography and other health and social care-related training.

This course will give you all the tools you need to prepare you for university study in your chosen field of the healthcare professions.

What will I do?

Access to Health Professions is designed to prepare you for University, and as such will equip you with the skills needed to thrive at the HE level. During the course, you will cover a range of topics and subjects that combine the academic skills needed, with the technical knowledge that provides the foundation of your studies at the HE level. During the 1 year course, you will cover topics including:

  • Academic Essay Writing and Digital Skills
  • Professional Standards in the NHS
  • Mathematics Needed in Nursing
  • Cells, Human Anatomy and the Muscular Skeletal System
  • The Psychology of Stress and A-Typical Psychology
  • Safeguarding and Inequalities in Health and Social Care

This course also includes a variety of lab-based research including heart and lung dissection.

Applications for Access to Health Professions are assessed on a case-by-case basis, however holding a GCSE (Grade 4 or above), or equivalent Level 2 in Functional Skills is desirable.

The course will take 2 years to complete. You will attend the course 1 day and 1 evening per week, with the opportunity to join some classes remotely. All classes will be run from our Rochford Campus at Skirbeck Road, Boston.

The Access to Health Professions programme will cost £3,384.00. If you have already gained a Level 3 qualification you may still be able to apply for an Advanced Learning Loan.

If you are aged 19 years or over on the 1st day of your course, you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to help with your college fees. If you progress to employment, you won't have to pay anything back until you’re earning £25,000 per year. Your household income isn't considered and there's no credit check. You will be assessed by various methods including lab practicals, essays, presentations, group discussions and research.

To successfully complete this course you will need to acquire 60 credits which will be externally assessed by the Cambridge Access Validating Agency (CAVA).
These credits will be made up as:

  • Study Skills (15 credits)
  • Biology (27 credits)
  • Psychology (18 credits)

Access to Health Professions is designed to feed directly into Higher Education. Successful completion of this course will enable you to progress onto a variety of HE courses such as the Healthcare Professions Support HTQ.
