This Access to Computing programme is designed for adults interested in undertaking a career in the computing and digital technologies fields.

Successful completion of the course could also lead to progress onto the College's University Level courses. You could study the HNC/HND in Computing on your doorstep and at up to half the cost of university fees.

What will I do?

The Access to Computing programme is gained by achieving 48 Level 3 credits in Computing.

You will also complete nine Level 3 credits in Study Skills and 3 credits in Level 3 IT for Academic Purposes.

Whilst it is an advantage that you have a full Level 2 qualification prior to entry on the course, the only requirement is that you hold at least a minimum of one GCSE grade 4 (Old GCSE grade C), in either English or Maths (equivalent qualifications may also be accepted e.g. Functional Skills Level 2).

The Access to Computing Higher Education programme will take one year (34 weeks) to complete. You will attend College three-four days a week and hours are designed to fit around childcare/school hours, with your day starting at 9.15am-9.30am and finishing 2.30pm–2.45pm.

Aged 19+?
If you are aged 19 years or over on the 1st day of your course, you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to help with your College fees. If you progress to employment you won't have to pay anything back until you’re earning £25,000 per year. Your household income isn't taken into account and there's no credit check. For the full diploma to be awarded you will need to compile a portfolio of assignments, which are externally moderated by Aim Awards.

You will learn by a variety of processes including theory and practice, portfolio assignments, individual and group work.

Successful completion of the Access to Computing programme may allow you direct entry to university study on courses relating to computing, systems analysis, programming, networking or computer science.
