Whether it's cells or the biological molecules that underpin all life, the genetics that give us our individuality, the ecosystems that cover the world or the homeostatic mechanisms that keep us alive, the A level in Biology is for anyone with an interest in the study of living things, and perhaps a future career involving biology.
The A level in Biology is a blend of academic study, investigative science, and practical work, which will equip you with a command of scientific vocabulary, the mathematical skills required to handle biological data, and the techniques to select and investigate your hypotheses.
Over the course of the two years, you will study a wide range of topics including Biological molecules, Organisms and their environment, Genetic information, variation and relationships between organisms, Energy transfers in and between organisms, Genetics, populations, evolution and ecosystems and The control of gene expression.
You will also conduct 12 exciting practical sessions in our specialised labs.
You will study in three recently refurbished laboratories, including new equipment for the study of polymerase chain reaction, centrifuges, spectrometers and dissection.
In addition to your course, you may also study either Functional Skills or GCSE English and Maths, dependent on your current GCSE grade.
The A level in Biology is free, if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.

You may be eligible to study this course for FREE should you be eligible under one of the following criteria:
Alternatively, you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to help with your College fees. If you progress to employment you won't have to pay anything back until you’re earning £25,000 per year. Your household income isn't taken into account and there's no credit check. Your eligibility depends on your course, nationality, and age. During the A Level in Biology you will be assessed through written examinations.
At the end of the two academic years you will be assessed by three exams.
You will have a Personal Tutor to help guide and support your learning. Information on study skills and access to study support groups is available if required.
