Studying Engineering at Boston College allowed me to explore so many different aspects of the discipline, gain new experiences, and develop myself as a person. Thanks to this, I am now a 2nd year student studying a Masters in Architectural Engineering at Heriot Watt University at Edinburgh.
Many people still ask me what its like to be a woman in a STEM subject, especially Engineering. In reality, it’s the most rewarding feeling in the world. I was one of the only girls on my course and I didn’t know how I was going to handle it. I was shy and nervous. Now I’m confident, I speak my mind, and I don’t back down. Being a woman in Engineering gives me motivation every day to show everyone else that I can do it just as well as anyone else.
Boston College gave me so many new experiences, and allowed me to see the world from outside of the little bubble you live in. I explored different aspects of Engineering and was supported when making my applications to university; something I never thought I’d do!
If you are even just curious about Engineering, then speak to someone about it. You’ll find that everyone is a lot more welcoming than you think, and you might even change your life.
