Which apprenticeship were you studying and what was/is your current job role?
I studied the Level 3 Retail Team Leader Apprenticeship, and I am currently a Team Leader with Lincolnshire Co-op.
Why did you choose to become an apprentice?
I chose to become an apprentice as it gave me the opportunity to gain skills and knowledge which I could use on a daily basis in my role, and I was also able to learn whilst still doing my current job.
What have you learnt/achieved from being an apprentice?
The course is broken down into small manageable sections and they cover areas which are all applicable to the retail sector, including customer service, health and safety and the retail selling process. Even though I have been in retail for over ten years, the course has helped expand my knowledge on areas such as employment legislation, team development and the effectiveness of store operations.
What are your plans now you have completed your apprenticeship?
Successfully passing the course with a distinction has given me a real confidence boost and I am looking forward to progressing further by pushing myself towards a Store Management position.
What would you say to others thinking of applying to become an apprentice?
By becoming an apprentice, you will reap a massive reward by completing a course which not only gives you a qualification but also the skills and knowledge to succeed in your career.
