Advanced Apprenticeship in Childcare

INTRODUCTION

The aims of this course are to prepare the candidate to work in a supervisory capacity competently, safely and effectively with children aged 0-16 years. It will also prepare you to work in a wide range of settings with different professionals and volunteers. Most roles entail working in creche, nursery, pre school and primary school placements, working with children of mixed ages and individual personalities and needs.
 
WHAT WILL I DO?
 
This course is made up of a technical certificate at level 3 - comprising of a syllabus of 5 units:
And the CCLD at Level 3 - comprising of 5 mandatory units:
And 4 optional units taken from a bank of 41 units. All optional units will be discussed at a later date with your personal NVQ Assessor.
Additinally you will be trained in Key Skills, which include Communication, ICT and Paediatric First Aid.
 

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE

This course runs for 2 years on a day release basis. Students will attend college one day per week for 6 hours.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS

Entry to the course will be considered in relation to the candidate"s previous knowledge and experience. A minimum of 4 GCSE"s at grade C or above are needed to start this course, or a DISTINCTION/HIGH MERIT from a previous level 2 childcare course. Also a good level of numeracy and literacy is required as well as a good reference, good communication skills. A genuine caring attitude is essential....
 
Childcare Apprentices have to be employed, for a minimum of 30 hours a week (including day release) at a workplace which has to be approved for health and safety purposes by Work Base Learning (WBL). Employers have to be willing to sign up to the training agreement and have to be prepared for the Training Advisor to visit the work placement every 8-12 weeks for training reviews and regular health and safety checks.
 
As well as studying for level 3, we expect all learner"s to complete a key skills portfolio to level 2 in AON and English. 

WHERE COULD IT LEAD

This qualification could lead directly to employment with children; in day nurseries, pre-schools, schools, social services or a private nanny. 

FEES

Employers may have to pay a contribution for those over  the age of 19.  For more information please enquire within the Apprenticeship Team.

For all Apprenticeships the Learner is required to be paid at least the Apprenticeship minimum wage (Currently £2.50 per hour).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

A high level of attendance is expected at college for the Work Based Learners as they are only attending one day per week where very intensive training takes place.
 
Apprentices are provided with a Training Advisor to help and support throughout the course and the work place and to ensure the students progression.
