This Taster Day will cover what is involved in teaching or training in the Lifelong Learning Sector. It will be of relevance to those considering work as a teacher in Further Education, in Adult and Community Learning, in Work-Based Learning and in the Voluntary Sector.
What Will I Do:
The day will outline the various activities involved in teaching and training, and will give participants an insight into the responsibilities of the job. It will involve information, discussion, group tasks and experiences of some of the activities involved in preparing to teach.
There will be an opportunity for participants to think about their own strengths and any needs for further training. The national qualification requirements for teachers in this sector will be explained. Participants will be encouraged to decide whether they would enjoy this type of work, and to plan their next steps.
The course will involve 1 day’s attendance lasting 6 hours.
The course is suitable for those aged 19 years and above. Participants will have vocational experience or qualifications in the subject area they wish to teach.
The next stage will be to obtain a PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) Award, either before or alongside appointment to a teaching or training role. The PTLLS course involves attending 10 sessions lasting 3 hours each.
