This course will provide you with a broad, basic, foundation in contemporary performing arts skills. It is an excellent start for anyone planning to follow a career in the performing arts industry and provides the means to progress to the Level 3 Performing Arts qualifications. It is equivalent to 4 GCSE’s grade A*-C.
WHAT WILL I DO During the course you will gain skills in various areas of performing arts and learn how to apply these in a creative context. You will have the opportunity to perform in several shows and performances throughout the year. You will be introduced to Film and TV acting, singing andt dancing. You will be expected to learn dialogue and songs at home in your own time and (where possible) rehearse dance routines. There are no examinations on this course, instead you will complete a series of projects which will be assessed and graded and these marks will add together to give you your final grade. You will also be expected to study English and Mathematics Functional Skills. As a Performing Arts student you will have access to all of our Performing Arts facilities which include dedicated dance studio, practice rooms, performance spaces, computer suite, Film and Television Studio and Photography studio.
This course is studied full-time for one academic year, normally from September to the following June.

You should also have a good school reference, including a good attendance record and be able to demonstrate your enthusiasm for the subject at your interview and audition. You must also pass a diagnostic screener in English at Level 1.
Successful completion of the course to a Merit or Distinction level would allow you to progress to the BTEC Level 3 Qualifications in Performing Arts. Should you decide to enter the world of employment this course is the equivalent of 4 GCSE’s at grade A*-C.
