Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care in Practice

INTRODUCTION

The Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care Practice has been developed in collaboration with Lincolnshire Teaching Primary Care Trust across the whole health community, including hospital, community and mental health trusts, University of Lincoln and Boston College.

This course provides both academic understanding and learning through work-based practice. It enables students to develop knowledge, skills and competencies related to their own role in health and social care settings.

What Will I Do?

Teaching is undertaken through lectures, seminars, group work, guest speakers, tutorials, research, self-directed study, case studies and reflection.

Each unit earns either 15 or 30 credit points. These are awarded to students who successfully complete an assessment(s). The assessment for each unit may include an essay, presentation, observed competencies or the production of a portfolio relating to an are of practice. There are no exams during the Foundation Degree. Tutorials and guidance on all assessments will be provided.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE

The Foundation Degree is taught over 6 semesters within a 2 year period. The choice of option units will be negotiated between student and employer.

The students during the academic year will attend one day a week at college, which will be situated at Sleaford. The optional unit delivery will be negotiated with students and facilitators.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS

University of Lincoln and Boston College are committed to widening participation in Higher Education. With this in mind students will be offered places depending on their work experience, any previous qualifications and motivation to study.

For those NHS students who intend to study as part of their development, this needs to be agreed with their manager as part of the Staff Development Review process.  Students employed by other organisations will need support from their employers and mentors.
