NEBOSH National General Certificate

INTRODUCTION

You may be able to study this course at either Boston College, Skirbeck Road, Boston or South Lincolnshire College, Red Lion Quarter, Spalding. (Depending on enquiries)

NEBOSH is a National Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health.  The NEBOSH National General Certificate is a qualification designed to help those with health and safety responsibilities, for example, managers, supervisors and employee representatives,  to carry out their duties at work and more effectively and to protect the organisations for which they work. 

WHAT WILL I DO?

The NEBOSH National General Certificate consists of three units, each separately assessed.

·     Unit NGC1 Management of Health and Safety (45% pass mark)

·     Unit NGC2 Controlling workplace hazards (45% pass mark)

·     Unit NGC3 Health and Safety practical application (60% pass mark)

Unit NGC3 has no syllabus associated with it, but tests the application of knowledge acquired in the study of the first two units. It examines your application of knowledge in the first instance to identify hazards, evaluate risk and control, and secondly to report to management in a way that is persuasive towards management action to improve standards.

·     Health and safety management systems 2 - organising

·     Health and safety management systems 3 - planning

·     Health and safety management systems - 4 measuring audit and review

NGC2: Controlling Workplace Hazards

NGC3: Health and Safety Practical Application

Purpose and aims:

Please note - the practical application should be carried out in the candidates own workplace. Where the candidate does not have access to a suitable workplace, it may be possible to arrange an alternative venue, subject to approval by NEBOSH

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE

The course is usually one full day per week over 13 weeks culminating in a practical examination and two 2 hour written examinations.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS

No formal qualifications are required for this course, although you should have a basic understanding of health and safety and the time to be able to participate in private study.

WHERE COULD IT LEAD

It provides the basis for progression to the NEBOSH National Diploma or NVQ route.

ADDITIONAL COSTS

Although the course fee includes an "Exam Success" book; you are advised to purchase the most recent version of "Introduction to Health and Safety at Work" By Phil Hughes and Ed Ferret PhD, prior to the course.
