INTRODUCTION

You can chose to study this course at either Boston College, Skirbeck Road, Boston or Red Lion Quarter, Spalding.(Subject to numbers)

The course has been upgraded from a Level 2 qualification to a Level 3 therefore prospective candidates should be practicing electricians or hold a Level 2 electrical qualification before undertaking this course, this can be the old City and Guilds 2360 Part 1 or the current City and Guilds 2330 Level 2.

This course covers a variety of factors relating to the management, Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment Maintenance. The course consists of two units. Unit 200 is the ‘Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment’ unit which is formally known as 2377-12. Unit 100, the exam of which can only be taken upon passing the above unit is called the ‘Management of Electrical Equipment Maintenance’, formally known as the 2377-11.

On successful completion of this course the candidate will be awarded the nationally recognised City & Guilds level 3 Certificate 2377 – 11 and 2377 - 12.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE

This course is run over 2 full days, with two online exams after the course. Exams must be taken at Boston College.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS

This course has been upgraded from a Level 2 qualification to a Level 3 and therefore prospective candidates should be practicing electricians or working within the electrician industry with knowledge that will support this qualification.

It is expected that candidates should be familiar with electrical systems and hazards of electricity.

Past electrical qualifications would be advantageous but not essential.

EXAMINATIONS

The first examination you will take is a practical examination where you will be required to demonstrate you can safely and competently inspect and test a Class 1 piece of equipment and complete the appropriate documentation. The examination will take place at the end of the final day of your course. The remaining examinations will take place on different days.

The second examination is unit 200 which is the ‘Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment’ unit and is an online examination. The exam lasts one hour and consists of 30 multiple choice questions. You must pass this examination in order to sit the management unit (100). You will complete a tutorial prior to the examination to assist you in navigating the system.

The third examination will take upon passing the above exam is Unit 100. This one will be at a later date to the first and lasts slightly longer (90 minutes) and consists of 45 multiple choice questions.

You will need to bring in photographic ID for each exam. Both of the online exams are open book exams. It is advised that you purchase the "IEE Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment - 3rd Edition" prior to taking the course. Please see below the required condition of the book in order to take it into the exam. The questions in the exam are all based on the content of this book so revising from the book between the course and the exam is beneficial. The examinations must be taken at Boston College.
