You can choose to study these courses at either Boston College or The South Lincolnshire College, Spalding.
These one or two year courses are designed to prepare you to progress to Higher Education or for a career in the Media Industry.
These courses will place emphasis on developing practical skills in a range of areas. They will also give you the opportunity to sample a wide variety of techniques and processes in order to help you formulate ideas and decide which area of Media you might wish to pursue. They will also equip you with a range of analytical Media skills that translate into work you would do in a real environment. The Extended Diploma is equivalent to 3 GCE A Levels grade A*-C. The Subsidiary Diploma, studied in the first year, is equivalent to 1 GCE A Level grade A*-C.
WHAT WILL I DO
During these courses you will complete a series of practical projects using a variety of media techniques and processes. You will study many areas of Media including: Video Production, Web Authoring and Design, Design for Publishing, Page Layout Editing, Scriptwriting, and Photography. You will learn about how the Media Industry works, and the fundamental research skills that underlie all media production. You will also gain an understanding of how media products are constructed for specific audience and markets and you will learn about employment opportunities and working practice in the media industry. There are no examinations on this course, instead you will be graded on each project and these marks will add together to give you your final grade. You will also be expected to study English and Mathematics Functional Skills.
As a Media student you will have access to all of our Art, Design & Media facilities, which include dedicated studios for Art & Design, Ceramics and Print. A Film & Television Studio and Video Editing Suites. A Photography Studio, Black & White Dark Room, Developing Suite and Apple Mac Suites.
The Subsidiary Diploma is studied full time for one year. Should you wish to progress, the full Extended Diploma is studied full-time for second year, normally from September to June.
4 GCSE’s at grade A*-C and a portfolio of work which demonstrates your enthusiasm for the subject. You should also have a good school reference, including a good attendance record, which you should bring with you to your interview.
You must also pass a diagnostic screener in English at Level 2.
Successful completion of the course would allow you to progress to Higher Education to study any aspect of the Media Industry.
Should you decide to enter the world of employment the Extended Diploma is equivalent to 3 GCE A Levels grade A*-C.
Full time Courses are free for those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course. For others, fees may vary depending on personal circumstances. Please enquire for details.

There is a studio fee of £30.00, payable by November, and you may be asked to pay for educational visits. You will also be expected to provide your own personal media materials e.g. mini DV tapes, SD cards, external hard drives, camera film, printing costs.
