This course enables you to obtain a nationally recognised qualification in Beauty Therapy which will allow you to seek employment or progress to NVQ level 3 and obtain advanced skills. The Beauty department at Boston College has three fully equipped training salons (which are open to the public), together with a reception area for all practical skills. Theory sessions will be taught either in the resource area or various classrooms.
WHAT WILL I DO
The course consists of nine units covering the following topics:
The course of study will include theoretical and practical sessions, some individual and group assignment work as well as oral and written tests and the production of a portfolio of evidence. Each student will have access to information on study skills and the opportunity to attend support study groups. Average group size is 16-18 students.
Full time: 1 year for 3/4 days a week (9.00am - 4.30pm).
It is essential that you have a proven attendance record. you will need a minimum of 90% attendance throughout the course in order to complete your practical and theory assignments and achieve a qualification.
Successful completion of NVQ 1 in Beauty Therapy or you should have three GCSE grades A - C in English, Mathematics and Science. Prospective students will be judged on their enthusiasm, ability to talk to people and personal presentation.
A full interview will be carried out for students wishing to progress from Level 1 to Level 2 in which attendance, attitude and ability will be taken into consideration.
Successful completion may enable you to work in a salon or on a mobile/freelance basis at a junior level. However most beauty businesses prefer you to have completed NVQ level 3. Successful completion of NVQ 2 will enable you to apply to progress to NVQ 3.
Full time Courses are free for those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course. For others, fees may vary depending on personal circumstances. Please enquire for details.
