This qualification is nationally recognised and should prepare you for employment as a Salon Junior/Assistant or progression to NVQ2 Hairdressing or NVQ2 Beauty Therapy
The course is based at the College Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy Department which has fully equipped Salons open to the public and a dispensary area containing all consumable products required for your practical work.
WHAT WILL I DO
The course is broken down into several units which cover a number of assisting skills that would enable you to become a Salon Junior.

All students will have a Personal Tutor who will be responsible for course guidance and general support.
The course is based on an assessment structure. You will be continually assessed throughout the course as and when you are ready. Assessments will cover practical applications, written assignments, online exams, oral questioning and portfolio evidence.
Customer Service and employability skills are an integrated part of the course and can also be found in units such as:

This is a full-time course (3-4 days) over 1 year with hours designed to fit around school hours where possible.
A student should hold a good reference and the academic requirements of a Level1 to Level 2 qualification. You should also have a smart appearance, enthusiasm for a career in Hairdressing and/or beauty therapy and the will to succeed. Students with proven prior qualifications and/or experience will be assessed against set criteria and may be able to gain credits towards the qualification. At interview, attendance, attitude and ability will be taken into consideration.
Successful completion of the course should enable you to apply for the following areas:-
Full time Courses are free for those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course. For others, fees may vary depending on personal circumstances. Please enquire for details.
Students will be expected to purchase a basic equipment kit (£180 approximately) which will include everything you need for practical lessons.
A Materials Fee of £40.00 needs to be paid at induction (All prices are approximate).
Tunic overalls are compulsory and students will be provided with example sheets of suggested tunic overalls and an order form during pre-course interview £25.00 approximately.
Suitable text books must be purchased to assist with theory work. These will be discussed during interview/induction (price TBC approx £25 ).
There are a number of educational visits arranged which students are encouraged to attend but the cost is minimal.
A number of short courses are also arranged for students on this course and often a small fee is charged – these are optional extras.
