NVQ Level 2

INTRODUCTION

This qualification is nationally recognised and prepares you for employment in the hairdressing industry.

The course is based in the College Hairdressing Department which has three fully equipped salons open to the public, and a dispensary area containing all the consumable products required for your practical work.
 
WHAT WILL I DO

The course is broken down into a number of units which cover a full range of practical hairdressing skills and essential knowledge.
Teaching and learning methods include:

All students will have a Personal Tutor who will be responsible for course guidance and general support.

The course is based on an assessment structure. You will be continually assessed throughout the course as and when you are ready. Assessment will cover practical applications, written assignment, oral questioning, online tests and portfolio generated evidence. Students will also be required to undertake 1 weeks work experience in a salon.

Each student will have information on study skills and help is available if needed.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE

This is a full-time course, which will take one year of full time study to complete.

Additionally the course allows students to cover aspects of Barbering.

 

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS

Successful completion of NVQ Level 1 in Hairdressing and basic hair cutting techniques. A good report from previous tutor, good attendance, attitude, a smart appearance and enthusiasm are all needed for a career in Hairdressing as well as the will to succeed.

Students with proven prior qualifications and/or experience will be assessed against set criteria and may be able to gain credits towards the qualification. Attendance, attitude and ability will be taken into consideration at interview.

WHERE COULD IT LEAD

Successful completion of the course should enable you to apply for employment in the following areas:-

Hairdressing salons, cruise liners, health farms, mobile hairdresser, TV/Theatrical hairdressing, salon owner.

Successful students will also be qualified to apply to join the NVQ 3 hairdressing course.

FEES

Full time Courses are free for those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course. For others, fees may vary depending on personal circumstances. Please enquire for details.

ADDITIONAL COSTS

All costs are approximate.

Students will be expected to purchase a basic hairdressing equipment kit (£180.00 approximately), which will include everything you need for practical lessons, although if you are continuing from Level 1 you will use the kit already purchased (but will need to purchase an additional but smaller kit for Level 2).

Uniforms are compulsory and students will be provided with example sheets of suggested overalls and an order form during a pre-course interview. Price TBC

Suitable text books must be purchased for this course to assist with theory work.  These will be discussed during interview/induction. Price TBC

There are a number of educational visits arranged which students are encouraged to attend but the cost is minimal. A number of short courses may also be arranged for students on this course and often a small fee is charged - these are optional extras.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

All additional costs must be paid at the begining of the course. A minimum of 90% attendance is required. There is also the option of applying for Level 3 upon completion of Level 2.
