INTRODUCTION

This course will enable those with an up to date NVQ2 in hairdressing  to obtain a nationally recognised qualification in barbering. 

The course is based in the College Hairdressing Department, which has 3 fully equipped salons open to the public, and a dispensary area containing all the consumable products required for your practical work. 

WHAT WILL I DO

The course consists of three units covering topics such as:

·     Clipper work

·     Use of grades

·     Short back and sides

·     Scissor over comb work

·     Clipper over comb work

·     Cut throat razors

·     Health & safety

·     Blow drying hair

·     Beards & moustaches

·     Related written assignments

You will be continually assessed throughout the course as and when you are ready.  Assessments will include practical work, written assignments, online exams, oral questioning and portfolio evidence.

Students are required to provide their own models.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE

This is a part-time course that runs for approximately 30 weeks on Monday evenings from 5:30pm - 7:30pm. A minimum of 90% attendance is required in order to achieve this qualification.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS

Either an NVQ Level 2 qualification in hairdressing or a relevant number of years experience within the industry.

WHERE COULD IT LEAD

Employment opportunities in Barber shops and uni-sex hairdressing salons, mobile Barber / hairdressers or a salon owner.
