BTEC Extended Diploma in Applied Science (Medical Science)
Level 3

INTRODUCTION

The Edexcel BTEC Extended Diploma in Applied Science is a full time level 3 course studied over 2 years. It provides the broad equivalent of 3 full A levels and provides UCAS points. This exciting new level 3 syllabus provides a pathway to University in Science related subjects. It involves a large element of Biology, Chemistry and some Physics. It will also prepare students for work in Science and Health related fields such as biomedical science, nutrition, pharmaceutical science, radiography and physiotherapy.

In the first year you will study for the subsidiary diploma with one AS level or GCSE alongside. You will also be studying some extended diploma units.

In the second year you complete the extended diploma with the option of continuing with your AS subject to A2 level. Entry to the second year depends on your performance in the first year.

This level 3 qualification is coursework based- it is assessed by College set assignments and externally moderated by Edexcel. There are no external exams.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE

The Extended Diploma requires two years of study.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS

You should have 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above, with a grade C minimum in GCSE Science and preferably grade C in Maths and English. (Or equivalent in other qualifications to be discussed at interview).

FEES

Full time Courses are free for those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course. For others, fees may vary depending on personal circumstances. Please enquire for details.
