INTRODUCTION

 

You can chose to study this course at Boston College, Skirbeck Road, Boston or Red Lion Quarter, Spalding.

Under the Private Security Industry Authority Act 2001; all individuals who wish to work within the private security industry must undertake a recognised qualification before applying for a licence.

The HABC Level 2 Award in Door Supervision has been developed to meet the requirements of the Security Industry Authority (SIA). It is based on the relevant SIA Specifications for Learning and Qualifications and provides the necessary skills and knowledge for learners who wish to apply for an SIA licence and Work as a Door Supervisor within the private security industry.

Gaining the Door Supervisors qualification will continue to allow the candidate to work across Door Supervision and Security Guarding Sectors (retail/ factories/ offices).

WHO NEEDS A LICENCE AND WHEN?

It is the work that you actually do, rather than your job title which determines whether you need a licence and the exact type of licence you need. For further guidance please visit the SIA website www.the-sia.org.uk

This qualification is for you if you are responsible for security, protection, screening the suitability of people entering premises or conflict management when alcohol is being supplied for consumption on the premises and / or regulated entertainment is taking place in places such as pubs, clubs and other licensed premises  open to the public.

WHAT DOES THE QUALIFICATION COVER?

Unit 1 - Working in the Private Security Industry

Unit 2 - Working as a Door Supervisor

Unit 3 - Conflict Management for the Private Security industry  

Unit 4 - Physical Intervention Skills for the Private Security Industry

WHAT DOES THE ASSESSMENT INVOLVE?

The Assessment for unit 1 is a 25 question multiple choice examination paper. To be successful in this unit; candidates must answer 18 out of the 25 questions correctly within the 40 minutes provided.

The Assessment for unit 2 is a 40 question multiple choice examination paper. To be successful in this unit; candidates must answer 28 out of the 40 questions correctly within the 60 minutes provided.

The Assessment for unit 3 is a 25 question multiple choice examination paper. To be successful in this unit; candidates must answer 18 out of the 25 questions correctly within the 40 minutes provided.

The Assessment for unit 4 is an on-going practical assessment throughout the session by the course tutor, there is also a short written test comprising of 10 questions which will be marked by the course tutor.

 

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE

The Door Supervisors Course will be delivered over 5 days.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS

There are no formal entry qualifications for this course however there are strict ID requirements stipulated by the SIA. This will be sent with the booking form should you wish to enrol on this course.

WHERE COULD IT LEAD

This nationally recognised qualification is the industry standard and enables a qualified candidate to apply for a licence to work in the private security industry.

ADDITIONAL COSTS

You will need to apply to SIA for your licence after you have passed this course. It normally takes around six weeks for each application to be processed; this time starts from when a correctly completed application form is received. Complex applications (for example, applications subject to Criminal Records Bureau or qualification enquiries and those requiring overseas criminality checks) may take longer than this. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Please be aware that there will be activity and physical contact involved within the Physical Intervention unit (unit 4). With this in mind, candidates are advised to wear suitable comfortable clothing including appropriate footwear and not to wear any jewellery which may cause harm if caught such as dangly earrings or necklaces.
