The course provides the theoretical learning for students who are undertaking the Cadet Nursing Scheme at Pilgrim Hospital.
WHAT WILL I DO
Subjects include: Personal and Professional Development, Communication, Equality, Diversity and Rights, Health and Safety, Vocational Experience, Psychology, Sociology, Anatomy and Physiology, Values and Planning, Supporting and Protecting Adults, and, Working with Children. The course is taught using a variety of methodologies including, project work, student led research, lectures, seminars etc.
Work experience will take place in a variety of clinical ward settings and childcare establishments. There is an opportunity to specialise in a specific field in the 2nd year.
The course consists of 3 days per week in college and 2 days per week on placement. The course lasts for 2 years.
5 GCSE at grades A*-C (or equivalent) two of which must include English, Mathematics, Science, History or Geography.
Full time Courses are free for those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course. For others, fees may vary depending on personal circumstances. Please enquire for details.
Uniform and CRB costs are currently borne by the NHS. All those working in the care sector need to undergo a CRB check. Convictions, warnings or pending convictions should be disclosed at point of interview. Any of the above may jeopardise a place on a course. Each case with be dealt with on an individual basis. However, failure to disclose will result in course determination.
Course text books require to be purchased.
A small charge may be made for Educational visits.
A 5 day Practical Placement with relevant reference will be required (if that cannot be obtained through school work experience, the students must access it themselves).

Interviews and assessments will take place at Pilgrim Hospital in May 2011.
