Teaching Certificate in Baby Massage
VTCT Level 3

INTRODUCTION

This course is aimed at midwives, nurses and health care workers wishing to teach new mothers how to massage their babies. Individuals within the holistic/complementary therapy field wishing to do the same are welcome.
Massaging babies helps with the bonding process, gives confidence to both mother and baby and aids growth and development of the child. The Beauty Section has three fully equipped training Salons (which are open to the public) together with a reception area for all practical skills. Theory sessions will be taught either in the resource area or various classrooms.


WHAT WILL I DO?

The course covers topics such as :-

• Employment standards
• Preparation
• Contra-indications
• After care advice
• Child development
• How to demonstrate to individuals and groups
• Forms of massage
• Anatomy and physiology
• General hygiene

The course of study will include home study, theoretical and practical sessions, some individual and group assignment work as well as practical assessments and the production of a portfolio of evidence. Each student will have access to information on study skills and the opportunity to attend support study groups. Average group size is 10-12 students.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE

This course is generally offered to Health Care Professionals and can be tailored to suit the group over a period of weeks or months as needed. Please enquire for details.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS

Prospective students need to hold a current qualification in midwifery, nursing, childcare and/or healthcare.

WHERE COULD IT LEAD

Successful completion will enable you to add this skill to your portfolio and progress to other courses of interest.
