The BTEC Extended Diploma in Uniformed Public Services is a level 3 academic course with practical elements embedded into it. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.
This diploma is equivalent to 3 A levels and can give the student up to a maximum of 420 UCAS points depending on their overall grades. When you have finished the course you can choose whether to enter employment or go into Higher Education. The BTEC Extended Diploma will be studied on a full-time basis over 2 years. It is equally suitable for school leavers and mature students.
WHAT WILL I DO
The course is made up of 18 units; five core units and other specialist units. The specialist units enable you to study particular areas in depth. This course aims to take students to the level necessary to pass both physical and academic assessments for entry in to any of the uniformed services. It is both a practical and academic course building upon many aspects of the student"s personal development.
You will study further units in year two. You will also be involved in visits to outside organisations and your full commitment and attendance to these outings is essential.

All units are assessed and graded at either pass, merit or distinction and an overall grade for the Extended Diploma is awarded. The course is primarily continual assessment comprising of both theory and practical assignment work, presentation and group work.
The course is studied on a full-time basis for two years.
BTEC First Diploma at Merit level or higher in related subject - OR -
Intermediate GNVQ in a related subject at Merit level or higher - OR -
At least 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C (including English Language and Mathematics) - OR -
Functional Skills in Literacy and Numeracy Level 2
Work experience is also desirable along with a satisfactory reference
BTEC Extended Diplomas are valued by employers and Higher Education establishments (universities and colleges). If you decide to go to university or college you could take a degree or a BTEC Higher National or study such subjects as Criminology, Policing and Outdoor Activities with Public Service Manaagement. Students go into careers such as the Police, the Emergency Services, the Armed Forces and Security.
Full time Courses are free for those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course. For others, fees may vary depending on personal circumstances. Please enquire for details.

An additional charge towards the cost of educational visits will be required. You will also need to provide your own stationery supplies and uniform which can be purchased from The School Uniform Shop in Boston.
