The BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Uniformed Public Services provides an insight into the range of work undertaken by the public services and the different career opportunities that exist within these services. On the course you will examine a range of uniformed and civilian jobs in each of the public services. The aim of the course is that the student will be able to make an informed judgement on their personal suitability for a career within the public services.
This course also prepares learners for the application and selection process of their chosen public service.
WHAT WILL I DO
This diploma is made up of 60 credits and comprises 7 units, which could include such topics as: Career planning, Employment in UPS, Sport and Exercise Studies.
Members of staff teaching on this course all have recent and relevant military or emergency services experience, ensuring that you receive up-to-date and accurate tuition. The course has a strong practical approach to learning.
Full attendance on this course is essential. You may also be required to attend trips and presentations additional to the course and outside of the college day, including weekends (you will be given notice of such activities).
Examples of some of the excursions/talks that may take place include:
Land-based and Navigation exerciese in Edale, Derbyshire
Army Residentials/Entry tests – ‘Look at Life’
Presentations at College by RAF/Army/Royal Navy/Police/RAF Police/Red Cross
Local area – Outdoor Skills
Note that different opportunities arise each year and therefore the above is only an example of what you may be able to participate in and not an actual itinerary for the coming year.
All units are assessed and graded leading to an overall grade for each unit. The course is primarily a continual assessment comprising of both theory and practical assignment work, presentation and group work. Functional Skills are also offered as part of the course.
The course is studied on a full-time basis for 1 year.
Successful completion of the BTEC First Diploma gives you a qualification equivalent of 4 GCSEs grade A*-C.
BTEC First Diplomas are valued by employers and Further Education establishments.
Students could go into careers such as the Emergency Services, the Armed Forces and Security, or otherwise to go onto study the BTEC Level 3, Diploma in Public Services
Full time Courses are free for those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course. For others, fees may vary depending on personal circumstances. Please enquire for details.
