INTRODUCTION

This is a new and up-coming A Level provided by the WJEC Examination Board.

The subject has arisen because of growing concerns that people in society today should have greater understanding of their role as global citizens and their responsibilities towards global development and sustainability.

The subject is developed from human geography and so develops many skills such as critical analysis and independent thinking.

AS Level - 2 Themes

Theme 1 Development,resources and Global citizenship.

Theme 2 Poverty and inequality

AS Level - 4 Themes

Theme 3 Perspectives of development.

Theme 4 Economic development.

Theme 5 Political development.

Theme 6 Social development.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE

AS and A2 (FULL A LEVEL) courses maybe studied on a part-time basis but students must be able to fit it into a full-time time table.

Full time students will take 2 years to complete 6 modules. Two modules must be completed in the first year to gain AS. It is envisaged that the exam will be taken in January and two modules in June.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS

Normally 5 GCSE"s grade C or above or equivalent, e.g BTEC

WHERE COULD IT LEAD

This subject compliments the study of Law, Sociology and Citizenship and is useful if you wish to follow a career in teaching or business.

FEES

Full time Courses are free for those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course. For others, fees may vary depending on personal circumstances. Please enquire for details.
