The aim of this course is to provide you with an academic qualification, useful for all types of employment or as part of the requirements for University entrance.
Sociology is a subject which lends itself to healthy debate and discussion and students are encouraged to use their own life experiences as a starting point to understanding our own society and the effects of others upon us. Students will be required to write many essays in which they will develop sociologists" theories to formulate arguments. Therefore a competent standard of written English is essential. Sociology is a Social Science and as such is a useful A level to combine with other Science subjects as well as with Arts and Humanities subjects.
WHAT WILL I DO

A2 Subjects:
It is an intensive course and students must recognise that a lot of reading and essay writing needs to be done at home in preparation for 2 predominantly essay-based exams. Each exam involves students presenting and assessing a range of sociological theories. At AS the exams are one and two hours in length, and at A2 they are one and a half hours and two hours in length
AS and A2 (full A-level) courses may be studied on a part-time basis but students must be able to fit into the full-time time table. Full time students will take 2 years to complete 4 modules. 2 modules must be completed in the 1st year to gain AS. It is envisaged that 1 module will be taken in January and 1 module in June. This schedule will also apply in the second year for those students aiming to achieve the full A level.
Normally 5 GCSE’s grade C or above including written-based subjects. Mature applicants may be credited with prior experience.
