Coursework module (Historical Enquiry)
Questions based on an introductory course - How wars begin: The European Powers and the Origins of Two World Wars, 1815-1941.
This will involve a short introductory course covering great power diplomacy 1815-1875; nationalism in the Balkans; the causes of World War One; the Treaty of Versailles and failure of the League of Nations; causes of World War Two and Hitler"s foreign policies. You will then need to choose one of these topics for your coursework.
Historical Enquiry questions will be based on an aspect of the course, but chosen by the student, and must cover a period of 100 years. The enquiry will be 3500 words, and assessed by the teacher. Worth 20% of A level mark
AS and A2 (full A-level) courses may be studied on a part-time basis but students must be able to fit into the full-time time table. The AS course requires one year of study. The full A Level requires two years.
You should have achieved at least 5 GCSEs at grade C or above. However, mature students without formal qualifications are encouraged to discuss their suitability with the course tutor.
The qualification is useful for those wishing to apply for university. It is suitable for those aiming for careers in the public service industry, the media, museum and archive work and teaching.
