BTEC Certificate in Art and Design
Level 3 (Art and Design A-level Programme)

INTRODUCTION

This one year course is designed to provide the opportunity for you to study Art & Design alongside your A Level Programme.

This course will help you to develop an understanding of visual language and give you a foundation in visual and technical Art & Design Skills in both two and three dimensions.  It will also give you the opportunity to sample a variety of materials, techniques and processes in order to help you formulate ideas. The Certificate is equivalent to 1GCE As Level grade A*-C.

WHAT WILL I DO?

During the course you will learn about how other artists made their work, how to research in order to generate ideas and how to analyse artwork. You will also develop your visual awareness and drawing ability. You will complete projects using a variety of materials, techniques and processes. You will study areas of Art & Design which may include:-  Fine Art, Painting, Sculpture, Photography, 3D Design, Graphic Design or 4D Time-Based Media.  There are no examinations on this course, instead you will be graded on each project and these marks will add together to give you your final grade.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE

The Certificate in Art & Design is studied in one column of the As or A level grid for one academic year.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS

You must have been accepted onto the A Level Programme.

You should have a GCSE Grade A-C in an Art Related Subject.

You should also have a portfolio of work which demonstrates your enthusiasm for the subject, which you should bring with you to your interview. 

You must also pass a diagnostic screener in English at Level 2.

WHERE COULD IT LEAD

Successful completion of the course would allow you to progress to the BTEC Foundation Diploma in Art & Design, a one-year course designed to bridge the gap between A levels and Higher Education in Art & Design. Alternatively if you wish to study other subjects you should consult your A Level Tutor or Careers Advice and Guidance. Should you decide to enter the world of employment the Certificate is equivalent to 1 GCE As Level grade A*-C.

FEES

Full time Courses are free for those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course. For others, fees may vary depending on personal circumstances. Please enquire for details.

You may be asked to pay for educational visits. You will also be expected to provide your own personal art materials.
