These part-time, in-service courses are delivered at Boston College and lead to a professional qualification in further, higher, adult education and training. They are an award of the University of Huddersfield. The courses are relevant to those involved in a teaching or training capacity working with adults or young people (over 14 years of age) in a range of settings such as FE colleges, sixth form colleges, the Police, the NHS, or independent training organisations. The course involves both improving practical teaching skills and engaging with key educational ideas and debates that will advance candidates professional knowledge.
This is an in-service course for those already employed as teachers and trainers with a minimum of NVQ3 or equivalent. Candidates are required to be in paid employment, as a teacher or trainer, for a minimum of 150 hours (at least 75 hours in any one year) at a recognised training or educational establishment. Voluntary teaching/training may be acceptable in certain circumstances.
The courses normally take two years of part–time study. The theory sessions are held 5.00pm - 8.00pm weekly. Holders of basic teaching qualifications may be able to make claims for accreditation of prior learning. Candidates with PTLLS at level 4 may be exempt from some aspects of the course in year 1.

These in-service part time courses enable candidates to explore their teaching role within the lifelong learning sector.
