The provision offered at entry level is highly individual and focuses on each student"s needs. The individual programmes are aimed at students who require extra time to settle into college or who may have experienced difficulties in the past. A rigorous assessment at the beginning of the programme enables staff to tailor the appropriate level of support. This can be offered in a variety of ways, from learning support in the classroom environment, to individual specialist requirements.
Additional support is also available for some students after an initial screener and diagnostic assessment.
A tutorial system is in place to ensure that each student settles into college life by providing a personal tutor to support them through their learning programme.
The certificate consists of a national qualification and endorsement in:
ACHIEVEMENT
Learners can achieve by completing up to nine units from the City and Guilds Entry Level Certificate in Skills for Working Life, including compulsory specialist units and optional units. All unit assignments are subject to internal and external verification. Functional Skills, Maths and English are part of the programme and tested where appropriate. In circumstances where accreditation is not essential to the needs of the student individual learning plan targets will be registered and recorded as achievement over the duration of the course.
One year, full-time, 9.00am to 4.30pm.
Entry is by interview and assessment.
This qualification can lead to two levels within the entry programme (two or three), depending on the needs and ability of the student. The course can lead to employment, progression to level one or the Real Skills programme over two years.
Full time Courses are free for those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course. For others, fees may vary depending on personal circumstances. Please enquire for details.
