Boston College

                             A Levels for International Students

The Course

The A level course is a two-year programme that prepares you for university. In Britain, this is the traditional route young people take to gain entry to university and is a popular option of many international students too.

Boston College offers a wide range of subjects. In the first year you will take four Advanced Subsidiary Subjects (AS) and in the second year you will take three of these forward. At the end of the course you will have three A levels and one AS.
If you are not planning to go to university, it is also possible to attend just for one year, at the end of which you will have achieved four AS levels.

English Language Support

Each week you will attend classes to develop your English language skills. If you are intending to progress to university, you will take the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) examination. This examination is very important as it is the English Language qualification most recognised by UK universities. This can be taken in the first year of your course and also year two if you wish to improve your score.
Our English as a Foreign Language (EFL) provision has been accredited by the British Council. This means that our EFL teaching, facilities and resources have been fully inspected and approved.

Tutorial Support

At Boston College we are very fortunate to have a team of committed and experienced international student tutors. They are aware of the particular needs of international students who, in most cases,  are living and studying away from home for the first time. You will meet as part of a group with your personal  tutor each week and there are opportunities for individual meetings too.
Your personal tutor is very important for monitoring your progress on the course and helping you apply to university,  if this is your intention. If you have any personal problems, your personal tutor can put you in touch with those people in College who can help you.

Boston College was proud to be named the Winner of the Association of College"s National Award for International Student Support.

International and UK Students Together!

International students on the A Level course are from a range of countries, including China, Japan, South Korea, Nigeria, and a variety of European countries. Because we are a state run college, you will work alongside UK students who are also preparing for university. This means that you can make new friends and improve your English at the same time!

Experienced Staff

Tina Favell is Head of Maths and has been teaching at Boston College for over twenty years. She has taught international students for much of this time and the results for Mathemtatics have been consistently excellent. She also acts as a second year personal tutor, preparing students for university, including Oxford and Cambridge.

Progression to Top Universities

A Level students at Boston College have progressed to many different UK universities including the following: Cambridge, The London School of Economics, Warwick, York, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Loughborough, Manchester, University College of London, Nottingham, University of East Anglia.

Excellent Results
