BOSTON COLLEGE PROFILE
Boston College is a state-supported college with British Council accreditation for its EFL courses. Over 1600 students study on two main campuses which are within walking distance of each other and close to the town centre. Founded in 1964, with 15 year’s experience in international recruitment students choose Boston College because of its well established reputation. Providing excellent support for international students, Boston welcomes 200 overseas students each year. We have excellent facilities and provide quality education in a friendly, supportive environment. Boston College is proud to have received accreditation from the Association of Colleges in the United Kingdom, for its International Student Support, being winner of the Beacon Award in November 2006. This award is sponsored by the British Council and has so far been awarded to a small number of Colleges around the UK.
BOSTON TOWN 
Boston College is based the traditional English market town of Boston, a small, quiet, rural town with a population of around 50,000. Boston is located in Lincolnshire close to the East Midland coast in an area of rich farmland. It has a fascinating agricultural and maritime history, including Boston’s most famour sons, the Pilgrim Fathers, sailing to and settling in Boston USA. It is a port town with docks and a fishing fleet and is only half an hour from the seaside holiday town on Skegness. It has a wide variety of shopping, sports and entertainment facilities.
There are good road and rail links to cities such as Lincoln, Nottingham and Cambridge. London is about two hours by train. Boston town is easy to find your way around on foot or by bike. Students can easily access all of the College and town facilities. Boston is a safe and pleasant place in which to live and study.
ACADEMIC STRENGTHS
Boston College has a history of achieving excellent results, with international students gaining entrance to top universities, including Cambridge and the London School of Economics. Studying A Levels is one of the most popular options for entrance to university. This is a real strength at Boston with more than 25 subjects on offer.
The Boston College International Foundation Programme is a well established, one year pre-university course which provides a fast track to university. Starting in September or January, it is a qualification which allows students to raise their academic standard and prepares them to achieve the 6.5 IELTS in English Language which is usually required for university entrance.
Full time EFL is an excellent way of improving your English and meeting new friends as well as preparing for academic studies. This course gives students the opportunity to acquire the language skills needed in the international jobs market or for progression to university. Our English courses are accredited by the British Council.
COLLEGE FACILITIES
A Level and International Foundation students are taught on both Rochford and De Montfort campuses. Classrooms are modern and well equipped. De Montfort Campus has a number of specialist facilities for photography and video, computer suites, art studios and all weather sports pitch.
The Rochford Campus offers excellent facilities for our catering, hair and beauty and engineering students. Most EFL (English as a Foreign Language) students are taught in the state-of-the-art Goodliffe Centre which includes a language lab and is also on the Rochford Campus.
Our Music students have their own facility, the Sam Newson Music Centre which provides teaching rooms, recording studios and a concert hall.
LEARNING AND RESOURCE CENTRES
The college aims to encourage all students to become independent learners. To help students develop essential study skills the College provides a range of Learning Support Services including English as a Foreign Language, Maths and Information Technology. To support this process the College has well stocked resource centres with IT facilities, including free internet access, open until 8.30 in the evening.
RECREATION AND FOOD
Most of the college’s international students live in the Hall of Residence which is on the Rochford Campus. This provides a social room with TV, pool table and games machines and is a meeting point for student in the evenings and weekends.
During the early weeks of College and throughout the year, the College organises trips and parties for international students. All students have the opportunity to suggest places to visit.
An active sports programme is offered with various sports clubs run on 2 evenings per week. Students can swim free every day at the swimming pool next to the Rochford Campus and can have access to a fitness centre for a small charge.
The excellent eating facilities in the Haven Restaurant and Bistro are run by our Catering students. We also have a large Diner on each campus where students can buy their food or sit and chat with friends.
