GETTING INVOLVED IN COLLEGE LIFE

The College employs a Learner Involvement Coordinator whose main role is to promote LEARNER VOICE and support learners as they get involved in College Life.

The Learner Involvement Coordinator also arranges learner activities such as the annual End of Year Festival and the Learner Voice Christmas Rep Conference.

Last year learners worked alongside the Learner Involvement Coordinator to put on the End of Year Festival, where talented musicians from the Colleges Sam Newsom Centre performed live on stage, Art students raised money for the Student Union through face painting and Performing Arts performed professional dance routines.

Every College student was invited, and everyone had a great time trying out all the activities including the Rodeo Bull, the Bungee Run, the Gladiator Jostling Stage, Tarot Card Readings and the Laser Quest Dome!

It was an amzing day, and a fantastic end to the year. So if this sounds like something youw ould like to be involve din, dont be shy! Get involved in YOUR College life!

What is Learner Voice?

Learner Voice is about empowering learners by providing appropriate ways of listening to their concerns, interets and needs in order to develop better educational experiences.

The Learner Involvement Coordinator will work with you and help you to amplify YOUR voice.

Learner Voice is not about learners shouting to be heard, nor is it about teachers giving all their power to learners, it is more of a partnership between staff and learners, which considers the views and ideas of learners. It's about respecting what everyone has to say, taking risks, sharing opinions, listening and engaging, and ultimately working together.

How can I make a difference?

The Learner Involvement Coordinator works very closely with learners who represent their peers. Learner representatives are the first contact that the College has with learners views. But this isn't just about management asking learners what they think, learners need to be involved in every level of decision making within the organisation. Learner representative are part of a 'pyramid structure' of representation. Taking learners' views up to the next level and feeding it up through the layers to reach representation at the highest point. This means that every course has a direct link into the board of governors of the organisation.
