
This department is small but has seen significant growth and expansion over the last year. There are two main areas within the department; one of which focuses upon adult learners who have aspirations to teach in the lifelong learning sector or are currently in employment and wish to develop their professional skills and adult learners who work in schools.
Students in the Teaching and Learning Development Unit enjoy a consistently high level of achievement.
Learners can expect high standards of delivery and to be effectively supported so they achieve their full potential.
The team have a range of sector specialism"s from Primary school teaching, High Level Teaching Assistant [HLTA], teaching in the prison service, Advanced Practitioners and significant experience within the lifelong learning sector and school settings.
The Teaching and Learning Development Manager, Gill Bush commented "This department is rapidly expanding, and has a key focus upon high standards for all learners who enroll on a courses with us. Learners continue to achieve and progress onto higher level courses with ourselves. It is very positive to see our learners achieve a qualification which leads to employment and career progression.
Case Study : Kim ElkingtonKim moved to Boston 5 ½ years ago with her son, who found it quite difficult to settle into school so she started helping in his classroom. This was just the start of Kim’s interest in teaching and found herself volunteering in various classes over the years.
“By volunteering in the school I realised that I wanted to do something different. I decided last year after 4 years volunteering that I would like to teach properly so I spoke to the College and spoke to the School to get their support of a placement which is a requirement”.
The course has helped Kim to develop her knowledge in how to help different children to learn. “It has really opened my eyes as to what a Teaching Assistant does need to know. It has helped me understand the need to develop as well as the different types of learning that can be used”.
