The courses are run in blocks of 6 weeks and you can study for as little as 2 weeks or as long as one year. This is a general English course covering all the main skills. The course covers grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and the four skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking). Each lesson is dedicated to one of the above topics, so you will receive comprehensive input in all areas of the English Language. On arrival your level of English is checked and you will be placed in a class with students of a similar language level to you. Class sizes vary but never exceed more than 16 students. We are accredited by the British Council for the Teaching of English.
You must be 16 years old at least at the start of the course. The maximum class size is 16 students.

You will be assessed continually throughout your course, so you can see how you’re progressing. As your English develops, you can move up to higher levels during the year.. At the end of the course you will be entered for a General IELTS exam, which is FREE.

You will usually have 3 or 4 lecturers teaching on your course. Your main lecturer will also be your tutor. Each week you will have a tutorial, either as a class or on a 1-1 basis. This time is for you to discuss and problems or queries you may have. Your personal tutor is very important for monitoring your progress on your course and for making sure you have adapted to life in Boston.
In 2006 the quality of support and service Boston College gives international students was recognised when it received a national Beacon Award from the Association of Colleges for the Welfare and Support of international students.
There is usually an education trip in every six week block. This may be to another city or to a local place of interest. There have been visits to Lincoln Christmas Market, The Galleries of Justice in Nottingham, Cambridge and Hull.
Many of our local trips are free. Very occasionally, we may ask for a £10 contribution to cover entry costs. Visits that require an overnight stay will vary. For example, a two-night stay in Edinburgh would cost aboout £95. The trip to India, which is organised annually, would cost about £800.
After studying EFL you may be returning home to continue with your studies or job. If you would like to continue your studies at Boston College we offer a variety of further courses you may like to consider. Many of our students go on to study A Levels or International Access to University. A wide range of vocational courses are also on offer, such as Catering or Sports Science.
