Performing Arts and MusicMusic - Roland Academy

Our courses emphasise practical skills that prepare students for work or further training in the Performing Arts or Music industries, such as further study at degree level. In the second year of the National Diploma courses workshops are held to help students research and apply for university.

Subjects covered in Performing Arts include drama, dance, stage craft and music theatre. In Music courses students may study performance, music technology, music business, sound recording, composition and DJ technology.

The College facilities include a music technology suite and theatre facilities at the De Montfort Campus, and the Sam Newsom Music Centre with auditorium, computer suite and rehearsal rooms. The Music Centre has a purpose built music technology suite and four studios equipped with Cubase SX and the latest VST instruments and samplers. In addition there are three DJ studios equipped with Technics 1210 turntables, CD Turntables and sampling facilities. Students are actively encouraged to record their own demos and seek employment and work experience in the music industry.

From Strength to Strength

All staff have a range of professional experience spanning music production, dance, drama and music theatre. Lecturers in Music Technology have extensive experience as DJs, producers and recording engineers. Music lecturers have a wealth of experience in the music business both as performers and producers, with successful groups and performers. Drama lecturers come from a range of backgrounds, comprising extensive experience as performers in drama, dance and musical theatre, plus directing credits.

Performing Arts students at Boston College perform at a range of events, including at the prestigious ‘Party in the Park’ in front of a crowd of 10,000! We have been impressed and inspired by the Colleges enterprising vision. The Music team in particular have been extremely helpful; their commitment, dedication and enthusiasm has been first-class and an inspiration to all concerned".

Kimberley CrawleyCase Study : Kimberley Crawley

With a passion for performing, Kimberley chose to study Performing Arts at Boston College after finishing her GCSEs at Thomas Cowley School.

“I was considering the course before I visited the College, but after meeting the lecturers and finding out more about the course I made my decision to join straight away. I enjoy everything about the course and it is great studying with people that have the same passion and interests as me.”

“The course has opened my eyes to the possibilities within the performing industry. I came to Boston College wanting to be a dancer or singer but during my time here I have realised that I have greater strengths in other areas. We have covered so many elements within both practical and theory lessons and have had the opportunity to perform in front of a different range of audience”.
