A Level Success
Year on year Boston College A-level students produce excellent results, and 2011 was no exception with the College achieving a 97% pass rate. There was a 100% pass rate in 11 out of the 15 A-levels subjects available. A*, A and B grades contributed to 46% of the overall grades achieved, an 11% leap from last year’s figures. On average, every 1 in 10 A level students achieved an A*.
Amanda Mosek, Principal at Boston College said, “I am absolutely delighted with our A level results this year and am particularly pleased to see so many students achieving the highest grades. It is a credit to the hard work of our students and staff and shows once again that Boston College is a brilliant place to come and study at”.
In particular, Maths, Further Maths and Statistics achieved 27 A* or A grades out of a possible 58 results . Amanda Rogowska was amongst these students achieving an A* in Polish, an A in Maths , an A in Law and a B in English Language. Amanda said, “I’m really happy! I got the grades I needed to get onto a degree in Law, Human Rights and Justice at De Montfort University in September, so I can pursue a career as a Barrister.”
Along with the congratulations and celebrations at Boston College was a mix of emotions as many students part with the friends they have made and the good times they have had at the College over the past two years. Many will move onto university, some are hoping to start building their careers but all are excited about preparing for the new challenges and adventures that lie ahead.
Matthew Blackman
After realising that sixth form wasn’t for him, and wanting to study a different variety of courses Matthew took the decision to study for his A-levels at Boston College. Moving from the Grammar School where he completed his GCSE’s, Matthew was looking for a more relaxed environment to carry on with his studies and somewhere that offered more of a variation of courses on offer.
Matthew chose to take his A-levels in Communication and Culture, World Development and Sociology. ‘I chose to study World Development, as it was a different and sounded really interesting. It was a really cool course to study. I don’t know anywhere else that has this course on offer in the area’.
Gaining a B, C and D in his results Matthew has chosen to study Politics at Lincoln University in September. Speaking of his results Matthew said, ‘I’m really happy with my results, I would defiantly recommend coming to Boston College!! The atmosphere was a lot more relaxed and grown up, just what I wanted. My parents agreed that moving to Boston College to study for my A-levels was the right decision too’.
Holly Smith
University of East Anglia is the destination of choice for Holly Smith in September, after gaining an A and 2 B’s. Holly studied Maths, Further Maths and Science at A-level and has chosen to carry with her interest and study a Maths Degree at UEA. Holly said just after opening her result ‘I’m really happy with my result and can’t wait to start university now’.
Holly completed her GCSE’s at Boston High School, but to study her A-levels at Boston College as she thought it would be a good transition from the school environment to university.
What also appealed to Holly, with choosing Boston College was the friendly environment and relaxed atmosphere that the college has to offer, something she felt wasn’t as evident at school.
‘I would defiantly recommend Boston College as a place to come instead of staying on at sixth form to study your A-levels, everyone is really friendly’.
