Boston College

Under 18"s Accommodation Policy

BOSTON COLLEGE aims to provide good quality, competitively priced accommodation for its students, primarily from overseas and for those who do not live within easy, daily travelling distance of the College. Boston College provides a supportive environment in which students are helped and encouraged to develop independence.

HALL OF RESIDENCE

Students choosing to live in the Hall of Residence will be allocated a single study bedroom taking into account wherever possible, individual preferences indicated on the application form, for example, requests to live in single sex accommodation, self catering or catered.   Students under the age of 18 will normally be placed together.

Twenty four hour supervision is not available.  However, the Hall of Residence Warden lives on the premises, and is contactable outside normal College working hours and there is also a Security Officer available at certain times during the evening/night.  Emergency phone numbers are available to all students living in the Hall of Residence.

HOMESTAY

Homestay accommodation is available for students wishing to live in a more homely environment.  All Homestays are inspected by the College’s Accommodation Officer prior to placing students, are CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) checked and monitored by annual visits.  The Accommodation Officer keeps in regular contact with the homestay providers who are given an emergency phone number for any problems which may arise outside normal College hours.

Students choosing to live in Homestay are provided with their own bedroom and expected to become and be treated as a member of the family.  Students are matched with homestays as far as possible using the information provided on the application form and this option is often chosen by first year students, especially those under 18 and those making their first visit to the UK.

STUDENT HOUSES

Student Houses are normally offered only to students over 18 unless agreement has been provided by parents/guardians. Information is available on request.

SUPPORT

On arrival, all students will receive a general information pack.  During Induction, all students will be provided with a Student Handbook and Diary which lists the support available in College from a variety of staff including the International Officer, Accommodation Officer, Health Adviser, Student Advisers, Counsellors, Student Services Manager and team and Personal Tutors.

The induction process includes advice to students on the facilities offered by the College and the town and also offers an opportunity for students to register with a local medical practitioner.  (Boston College staff will not be responsible for the storage and dispensing of medication to students). The College has links with a range of local organisations which are able to offer support to students in meeting, for example, specific religious and cultural needs and interests and students will be introduced to these as requested.

Parents are asked to acknowledge receipt of this information by signing and returning the form before the student arrives. You may either download a copy of this policy OR call the accommodation officer to be mailed a copy.
